If the final argument of the book has any sense at all, it doesn't show it. No criticism of post-Marxism is even included.

It just feels like the author's paternalistic condescension was at work here. What happens if the impressionable young minds are seduced by this ideology and start taking it seriously? I must never let that happen. One star down because the "humor" and cartoons are trying way too hard. Two stars down because the author can't keep his libertarian views in his pants and randomly drops hoary canards like "socialism can't work" and "the free market is the only way to ensure an equitable distribution of capital" without even trying to justify them.

For something that is meant to be an introduction to a to This is a really terrible book. For something that is meant to be an introduction to a topic as complex and literally revolutionary as Marxism this is far, far too biased and makes no attempt to rectify that fact.

Grim stuff. Helpful overview and into to Marxism and critiques This is a helpful synopsis of Marxist theory, its historical application, principles, critiques and varied interpretations and transformations in modern times.

Overall however good info to its general ideas and criticisms, enjoyed the resources for further reading in the end Reading the ultimate conclusion, I was like: "wait, whaaaa? I am still not entirely sure the author isn't just trolling. The German translation might obfuscate some irony markers. Nov 17, Icon Books rated it it was amazing Shelves: introducing-graphic-guides. Marxism in a nut shell This book concisely touches key concepts of marxism and its evolution till contemporary times. In its last sections writer has very efficiently postulated the deficiencies of marxism through a postmodern perspective.

I liked the fact how lucidly the writer has explained the disintegration of class conflict into conflicts of micro-identities and that in post modern time class solidarity has been replaced by solidarity of these local micro-groups. Special emphasis on derida and post modern subjectivity has made it easier to understand failure of revolutions and disenchantment in post revolution societies. However writer has approved of marxist assertion of capitalistic exploitation of labor but has written very scantily about changing stances across the era over marxist reasoning behind development of this exploitation.

If this had been discussed as meticulously as failure of the marxist solution to class conflict i would have certainly rated the book 5 star Apr 04, Friendzilla rated it did not like it. First third or so gives a broad glancing introductory overview of marx's philosophy which may be difficult for a beginner to follow. Another third of the book is dedicated to soviet history.

This is the point at which it became too difficult for me to continue reading. The unjustified pounding over and over on the point of marxism's hopelessness as theory and practice and the out of nowhere statements of opinion betray this whole book as a tract of liberal propaganda first, education second. And First third or so gives a broad glancing introductory overview of marx's philosophy which may be difficult for a beginner to follow. And the educational aspect really suffers for it.

Don't be mislead by the graphic format of this "introduction" to Marxism. It's a serious and fairly dense overview of Marxism from its inception through the misguided years of the Soviet-style version to post-modern interpretations and critiques of classical Marxism. Its compactness makes this a good way to delve deeper into the philosophical and historical aspects of this profoundly important political, economic and social current of thought. Makes a difficult subject easier to grasp A well structured book that explains the history and workings Marxism from its inception, rise, fall, and eventual reinterpretation to explain the current state of political reality.

The graphics work well with the writing to keep the reader interested in a political theory that is difficult to comprehend and equally misunderstood by many interested in the workings of Marxism. Good for introduction to Marxism, hegemony and further adoption of Marxism in different forms to accommodate with the modern world ideas.

Delves deep significantly to the development of the ideas behind the social changes and the evolution of social systems. A little biased though against Marxism as it didn't persist in the new world.
